Shoreline Softening Projects
Grant-Funded Initiatives for Shared Resources
In late 2024, Diamond Lake was awarded a grant to support our mission of shoreline restoration. Two key areas of focus are Firework Island and the Boat Launch.
Firework Island: Firework Island is owned and managed by DLA and provides a natural habitat for fish and wildlife as well as the launching site for the annual Fireworks display. Over the past several decades, Firework Island has experienced significant land loss due to erosion from wave energy. Without intervention, the island will continue to deteriorate and deposit sediment into the lake. This process would lead to deterioration of habitat and a gradual shallowing of the lake.
Boat Launch: Though less severe, the boat launch is also showing signs of erosion that needs to be addressed.
The Plan for 2025
DLA In partnership with environmental professionals and the State of Michigan, we have developed a comprehensive restoration plan for these areas. The project will use grant funding to implement solutions that protect the shoreline, reduce erosion, and improve the overall health of Diamond Lake by providing fish habitat.
The project design was developed in partnership with The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) & The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MI DNR) are leading the way to successful implementation of shore softening to preserve our beautiful lake for generations to come. Please join us in our journey and follow our progress on the DLA website and periodic social media updates!
Below, you’ll find concept art detailing the proposed changes, which are set to be implemented in the first half of 2025.
